Up Your Interview Game with Help from the Career Center

Do you have an upcoming interview that you need to practice for? The Career Center here at Florida State has got you covered, with mock interviews via Zoom. Using the following link, you can sign up for mock interviews and obtain other interview related resources-

When scheduling a time for a mock interview, you will also provide your cover letter and resume to be critiqued and serve as a basis for interview questions. By making note of what job you are applying for, your career center liaison will then tailor the interview around your specific interviewing situation. This is very critical because not every interview is going to follow the same format- a grad school interview is going to vary greatly from an internship interview, for example. I am an Information Technology major, so the interview was geared towards a help-desk position, and I was asked more technical questions which helped to simulate an interview I would get in regards to an actual IT role.

Because of COVID precautions, all interviews during the Fall 2020 semester at the time of writing, are going to be limited to virtual interviews over Zoom. In my specific instance, this was a great way to test the waters of interviewing through a webcam, which is something I had never done before. As you go through your interview, your liaison will fill out a form that evaluates your strengths and weaknesses. At the conclusion of the interview, this feedback will be presented back to you so that you are able to assess what areas of the interview you need to polish when looking towards future interviews. If you are a transfer going for a Bachelor’s degree, you are probably 2 or less years away from when the real world interviews start, so it is never too early to take advantage of resources like this at FSU before jumping into your career.

Mock interviews are just one of the many resources that the Florida State Career Center offers, visit https://career.fsu.edu/ for more information on other events like career fairs, resume cafés, and a variety of resources designed to jump start your career. Thank you, and good luck with your interviews!
