Utilizing the University Counseling Center at FSU

Hey Noles, everyone here at THT hopes your Spring 2021 semester is off to a great start! For some of us, though, this may be a time of great difficulty or uncertainty. That is entirely alright, though- there is nothing wrong with needing some extra help. For this blog post, we want to highlight the University Counseling Center (UCC) and some of the services they offer to help get you through a rough patch. According to the Princeton Review, FSU is ranked in the top 20 for student-based counseling services (2021). The website for FSU UCC can be found below:

The first step to getting help is calling the UCC at 850-644-TALK (8255). They offer a wide range of service delivery, from remotely via the phone or Zoom, or just a traditional in-person meeting. The FSU University Counseling Center address is 250 Askew Student Life Building, 942 Learning Way, Tallahassee, FL 32306. They refer to this initial meeting as “First Contact,” it is not a counseling session but rather a way for the UCC staff to assess your situation and determine what resources would be the best for you.

The University Counseling Center is also offering weekly Zoom workshops throughout the Spring 2021 semester. A full schedule of upcoming workshops can be found using the link below:

Some of these workshop topics include creating art to cope, practicing meditation, finding ways to tackle motivation challenges, and many others. These workshops are a good way to break up the monotony of online classes, and can teach you new techniques to make your academic journey more enjoyable.

Finally, the UCC offers a very extensive resources page of outside sites that can be used to address a variety of concerns. Resources from topics like Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Depression, and LGBTQ all have many associated links; there are many paths to receiving help and many tools you can use on your road to a healthier life.

We hope that you consider these resources when encountering difficulties. Remember, it is okay to admit you are going through a hard time, and you do not have to go through the process alone. Transfers Helping Transfers wish everyone success and happiness in the new year and the new semester.
