LinkedIn Tip to Help You get Hired Faster

Hey Noles, Happy Friday!

This blog post is for building your personal network using LinkedIn. Getting a job after college or finding an internship can seem like a pretty daunting task. Searching for a job or an internship can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Graduating seniors pay attention! This trick expands your reach immensely.  LinkedIn is an excellent way for you to stay in contact with your own personal rolodex of business contacts. LinkedIn allows its users to search up anyone that is on their platform. FSU has a page on LinkedIn that allows other FSU students and graduates to communicate with one another. This page allows you to personally connect with thousands of other FSU alumni all across the world. When trying to apply for jobs or internships, sending out blind applications can seem like a waste of time. This allows you to see if anyone from FSU works at the company you are applying at. This gives you an opportunity to reach out to someone internally before your application process. This can greatly increase the percentage that you land the job.

Here are the steps:

1. First, login to LinkedIn & find the search bar. Enter: “Florida State University

2. Next look for this option to appear in the results:

3. Click on it and the page should look like this:

4. Next, choose the “Alumni” tab that is in the grey options menu, the other options on the menu are Home, About, Posts, Jobs, Alumni, Videos

5. From there is another search bar, where you now have access to 229,137 alumni that you can contact through LinkedIn:

You can search by location or company. This tool can help you get in touch with thousands of recruiters across many different market segments. Hopefully this tool helps you in your search for an internship or a career after your time at FSU. I only found this trick during my senior year of college. I wish I had been able to take advantage of this during my entire time as a student. So don’t wait!
