Upcoming STEM Career and Internship Fair

Hey Noles, hope you had a great week!

Just wanted to remind you all about the STEM Career and Internship Fair coming up on February 16. This is a great opportunity to make yourself known to employers and find new job opportunities.

Things you might want to prepare beforehand:

1. Have a prepared resume: Know your resume in and out so that you are prepared for any questions that they might have. If you need help with your resume the Career Center has provided a template that you may use. To access it just click the link below.

2. Dress Professionally: Your appearance is key for first impressions. So pull out the suit and tie to make sure you look great for the career fair. Guys should be wearing pants and dress shirts, ladies should be in appropriate business attire also. For more info on what to wear, they made a list of general dress code for the career fair on the main page of the STEM Fair here.

3. Research beforehand: Make sure you have some information on the employers before you attend. Getting a background knowledge on what they care about will make a great first impression!

4. Elevator Speech: Finally, practice your elevator speech. You won’t have much time to talk with each company, so be sure to have an introductory speech prepared so you can tell them everything they need to know about you! Look at this YouTube video for a great example of an elevator speech.

5. STAR: By following the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method when answering questions, you create engaging stories and better describe your skills. Here is a good blog post if you want more info on the STAR method

6. Zoom: Test all of your equipment beforehand so you don’t have any technical issues on the day of the fair. Don’t have any weird or controversial backgrounds.

Make sure to prepare and I will hope to see you all next week!
