Want to get a good cardiovascular or strength workout?
Today’s topic is the Dr. Bobby E. Leach Center; Or as many of you know it, “The Leach.” The Bobby E. Leach Student Recreation Center is a 120,000 square foot fitness facility located right in the heart of campus. Users are required to present a current, valid FSUCard to access the facility.
Treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals, bikes, and rowers are among the nearly 100 cardiovascular machines available. Hammer Strength, Cybex, LifeFitness, FreeMotion, and other brands can help you hit the weights! Furthermore, the Leach has over 6,500 pounds of dumbbells! Dumbbell sets vary in weight from 3 pounds to 120 pounds and are located in three sections of the gym to fit all members.
On the upper floor of the Leach Center, there are three regulation-size basketball courts. Pick-up basketball is available on Courts 1 and 2, while Court 3 is reserved for other sports such as volleyball (equipment is available at the Front Desk), table tennis, and badminton. Anytime the Leach is available, racquet sports enthusiasts can use our five racquetball and squash courts for recreational matches.
Another reason I usually go to the Leach besides working out is for a quick pick up basketball game. Everyone who has played or watched a pick up basketball game at the leach knows that it gets very competitive. That is one of the main reasons people come out there to play. After all, everyone laughs and enjoys each other’s company.
The Leach Pool is a 25-yard indoor swimming pool with 16 lanes and two 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. There is a full spa area with two whirlpools, two steam rooms, and a sauna that is situated just off the pool deck. For more details, see our Aquatics sections.
